I went to the last place you logged off at and it's in a tree, seems Ok to me ?

That's only how it works if you don't have a vanilla spawnpoint, aka if you haven't slept in a bed.
Put down a bed to your most preferred respawning location and sleep in it so you'll always spawn there.
It'll also grant you a new home, /home bed.
