How to remove Nether Portals

Is there a simple way to remove a nether portal one has created?

It is kind of nice that the portal itself remains when you break the frame so you can change the frame material, but I'm trying to match up certain portal destinations which can require a bit of trial and error... there's no way to delete the darned things so I can try again.

as far as know, there's no good way for normal players to get rid of them, the next time we're on at the same time, i'll sit there with you and destroy them for you. if that'll work for you.
